A RESOLUTION

Recognizing Vanetta Keyes for her outstanding leadership of The Center Helping Obesity in Children End Successfully, Inc.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, according to the Institute of Medicine, the national prevalence of obesity in children is currently at a alarming high; and  

WHEREAS, when she learned that her own daughter´s health was at significant risk because of weight, Vanetta Keyes created the Center Helping Obesity in Children End Successfully, Inc. (CHOICES) in 2002 to promote a greater public awareness of the obesity epidemic in children; and

WHEREAS, the mission of CHOICES is to prevent and eliminate childhood obesity by enabling the young to make better choices as it relates to food and lifestyle by instituting educational programs that incorporate professional dietitians, personal training, and fun activities while teaching the importance of exercising and healthy eating; and

WHEREAS, CHOICES offers a variety of services, including a successful eight-week fitness challenge at Body Plex in Woodstock, Georgia, where parents and students participate in weekly cardio exercise and nutritional education; and

WHEREAS, in her efforts to ensure the health of the future leaders of our nation, Vanetta Keyes has provided an indispensable service to her community as well as to the State of Georgia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body heartily commend Vanetta Keyes for her diligence, compassion, and conscientious leadership for the physical and personal growth of Georgia youth.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Vanetta Keyes.
