2011 challenge recap

"Leading, Learning and Losing Weight"

The Center Helping Obesity In Children End Successfully, Inc. (C.H.O.I.C.E.S.) presents The "Sisters in the LITE" (Lifestyle Intervention Teaching Exercise) a grant supported program that pulls out all the stops!

This program originally started on January 27, 2007 at The Atlanta Medical Wellness Center.  After much success, it has been expanded to include Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, Kennesaw State University, and Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Department.

We are accepting as Participants, young ladies between the ages of 12-24 with a BMI (Body Mass Index) above 26. They must be willing to take charge of their lives, learn, and practice eating healthy for at least 12 weeks.  There will only be 25 participants for all the sites in total.  We are also accepting adult Volunteers to make the experience more fun for everyone!

This is not a diet program. Everyone will learn how to sustain a healthy weight by making lifestyle changes. We will be using "Bodyworks – A Toolkit for Healthy Girls & Strong Women" created by the Office on Women's Health, as the curriculum. Sisters will be taught with trained professionals representing fitness, nutrition, medical and behavioral specialties.

Sisters in the L.I.T.E. – Mothers & Daughters Challenge 2012

The 12 week "Lifestyle Intervention Teaching Exercise" brought together mothers, daughters, and sisters on a mission to educate themselves on nutrition, fitness, and lifestyle changes that would lead to a long and healthy life.

The ladies of Sisters in the L.I.T.E. learned how to lead a healthy lifestyle with the BodyWorks Toolkit for Healthy Families; got moving with weekly fun fitness classes featuring guest fitness instructors from Club Jam, Daystar Dance Academy, and Zumba for Beginners (all programs available through Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Department); participated in group fitness outings to Brunswick Zone XL and Sparkles Family Fun Center; joined in community events like C.H.O.I.C.E.S. 7th Annual Children's Nutrition Education & Physical Activity Expo, Fit City Kennesaw, and the Kennesaw Easter Egg Scramble; learned how to prepare nutritious and delicious meals at Young Chef's Academy; and compiled all of that knowledge and activity to earn the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award.

Congratulations on a job well done! We'll see you back at Kennesaw Parks & Rec this summer.
